- I'm trying to establish an async dialup connection from paris to toronto
- (or visa versa) from a v.42 modem to IBM's 8235 (which is oem'd from Shiva)
- Is there any reason why I sould be having problems?
- I have working local versions on both continents, i.e. my modem while located in
- toronto can connect to my toronto 8235, likewise in paris; a "french" modem
- can connect to the paris 8235. I cannot dial up from paris and connect to toronto.
- The modem dials and handshakes but when trying to establish the IPX or Netbeui
- connection it fails.
- I can only come up with a couple of hypothesies:
- 1. The French voice phone system appears quite different from North American. Does
- that mean modems are physically different?
- 2. Different language code pages, are the modems sending different language result
- codes?
-
- If any one has some international modem experience I would like to hear from you.
